USD #225 Board of Education Meeting
December 13, 2021, 6:30 P.M.
Call to order: T.J. Milford, Board President, called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Pledge of Allegiance was recited and McDowell led a prayer.
Members present: Tom Huelskamp, Cathy Heinz, Kim Copenhaver, and T.J. Milford were present. Others present were Cherie Nicholson, Superintendent, Erica Littlewood, Board Clerk, and Corri McDowell, Principal.
Ed Rarden, Jared Weber, and Fred Boyd were not present.
Recognition of Visitors/Communication: Sara Gainey, Debbie Wise, Will Padgett, Jeff Zortman, Charlie Littlewood, Cord Moss, Micah McDowell, Makenna Smith, Jody Varnell, and four grade school students.
Approve Consent Agenda: Huelskamp moved, seconded by Copenhaver to approve the Consent Agenda. Motion carried 4-0.
REPORTS
- Economic Development: TJ Milford – Report given
- Fowler apartments sold – Eco Devo no longer owns.
- Spend local bucks (Shop local campaign)
- Special Ed Co-op: Kimberly Copenhaver – Report given
- Increase of assessment costs: $370 for the year.

DISCUSSION
BOE Nominees for Negotiation Committee – Item tabled until the January 2022 meeting.
Enrollment Policy JBC (97) – Milford moved, seconded by Copenhaver to make an exception of the district policy to allow an out of district student to enroll at the semester with the stipulation of the child’s appropriate school behavior. Motion carried 5-0.
Transportation Request – Copenhaver moved, seconded by Huelskamp to allow The Fowler Friends Church the use of any bus other than bus 6 during spring break, with the understanding of the of extra fees being incurred. Motion carried 5-0.
January BOE Meeting – January 2022 BOE meeting time changed to 6:30 p.m.
ESSER Updates – Discussion only. No motion made.
Out of District Agreement (Jr. High) – Discussion only. No motion made.
Recess – 5-minute break starting at 8:26 p.m.
Meeting resumed at 8:31 p.m.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
Milford moved, seconded by Huelskamp to go into executive session for 15 minutes to discuss non-elected personnel under KOMA, board and superintendent. This session is required to protect the privacy interests of the individual(s) to be discussed. Motion carried 5-0. 8:31 p.m.
Milford moved, seconded by Copenhaver to go into executive session for 10 minutes to discuss data relating to financial affairs under KOMA, board and superintendent. Motion carried 5-0. 8:48 p.m.
Milford moved, seconded by Copenhaver to go back into executive session for 5 minutes, board only. Motion carried 5-0. 9:00 p.m.
Copenhaver moved, seconded by Heinz to go back into executive session for 5 minutes, board only. Motion carried 5-0. 9:06 p.m.
Adjournment – Milford moved, seconded by Copenhaver to adjourn meeting. Motion carried 5-0 9:13 p.m.
