Regular Board Of Education Meeting

Monday, October 13, 2014     7:00 p.m.

 

 

 

Call to order:  Marjean Strong, vice-president, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer.

 

Members present:   Erica Littlewood, Steve Lundeen, Duke Marrs, Tim Milford, Marjean Strong were present. Mark Bergkamp was present by telephone.  Others present were Mr. Tom Dolenz, Superintendent/Principal; Mark Cook, Jr/Sr High School Principal; and Brenda Wenta, Clerk.

 

Recognition of Visitors/Communication:  A letter from Lavonna Huston was read commending our students who were score keepers at the Kansas State Sporting Clay Shoot.

 

Approve Agenda: Milford moved, seconded by Littlewood to approve the agenda and to suspend the agenda.  Motion carried 6-0.

 

Approve Minutes: Lundeen moved, Milford seconded to approve the regular meeting minutes of September 8, 2014.  Motion carried 6-0.

 

Accounts Payable: Marrs moved, seconded by Lundeen to approve the accounts payable as presented.  Motion carried 6-0.

Mark Bergkamp left the meeting by telephone.

 

Old Business:

Building and Equipment Use policy

            A motion was made by Milford, seconded by Marrs to deny the request by Salt and Light Church of God to use the school building.  Motion carried 5-0

 

New business:

Junior High Football

            A motion was made by Littlewood, seconded by Milford to stand alone in junior high football for next school year.  Motion carried 5-0.      

 

Executive session:  Motion by Lundeen, seconded by Marrs to enter into executive session to discuss personnel matters of nonelected personnel in order to protect the privacy interests of the individual(s) to be discussed and that the board return to open session in the board room at 9:15 p.m. Motion carried 5-0.  Board Members, Mr. Dolenz, Mr. Cook were present.  Time:  9:00 p.m.

 

Mark Bergkamp joined the meeting by telephone.

 

Personnel:

            Marrs moved, Lundeen seconded to hire Kekoa Mendenhall as head junior high basketball coach.  Motion carried 6-0.

Lundeen moved, Milford seconded to hire Nikea Thompson as assistant junior high basketball coach.  Motion carried 6-0.

           

Executive session:  Motion by Lundeen, seconded by Marrs to enter into executive session to discuss personnel matters of nonelected personnel in order to protect the privacy interests of the individual(s) to be discussed and that the board return to open session in the board room at 9:30 p.m. Motion carried 6-0.  Board Members, Mr. Dolenz, Mr. Cook were present.  Time:  9:20 p.m.

 

Personnel:

 

            Lundeen moved, Marrs seconded to accept the resignation of Rhonda Milford as elementary secretary and class sponsorship the end of October.  Motion carried 6-0.

            Marrs moved, Lundeen seconded to hire Jamie Boese as elementary secretary, to transfer Tammy Smith to assistant cook at 30 hours per week and Anne Ball to custodian at 40 hours per week.  Motion carried 5-1. (Littlewood)

 

Adjournment:  A motion was made by Steve Lundeen and seconded by Duke Marrs to adjourn the meeting.  Motion carried 6-0.  Time:  9:35 p.m.
