USD #225 Board of Education Special Meeting

May 22, 2020, 7:00 P.M.  

Call to order:  T.J. Milford, Board President, called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.  Pledge of Allegiance was recited and Corri McDowell led in prayer.

Members present: Fred Boyd, Ed Rarden, Kimberly Copenhaver, Cathy Heinz, Tom Huelskamp, and TJ Milford were present. Others present were Jeff Bollinger, Superintendent, Corri McDowell, Principal, and Erica Rarden, Board Clerk.

Recognition of Visitors/Communication: None

DISCUSSION

Addendum to Agenda: Copenhaver moved, seconded by Boyd to add new hire under personnel onto the agenda. Motion carried 6-0.

Negotiated Agreement: Copenhaver moved, seconded by Milford to approve the revised Teacher Negotiated Agreement for the 2020-2021 School year. Motion carried 6-0.

PERSONNEL

New Hire: Heinz moved, seconded by Copenhaver to accept the principal’s recommendation to hire Kimberly Spring Sellars for the position of elementary teacher. Motion carried 6-0.

Resignation: Copenhaver moved, seconded by Milford to accept the early resignation of Jeff Bollinger effective immediately. Motion carried 6-0.

Superintendent: Rarden moved, seconded Copenhaver to hire Cherie Nicholson as the interim superintendent effective immediately. Motion carried 6-0.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

Copenhaver moved, seconded by Heinz to go into executive session for 15 minutes, board only, to discuss the exception for employer-employee negotiations under KOMA. This session is required to protect the privacy interests of the individual(s) to be discussed. Motion carried 6-0. 7:06 p.m.

Heinz moved, seconded by Boyd to go into executive session for 30 minutes, board only, to discuss non-elected personnel exception under KOMA. Motion carried 6-0. 7:23 p.m.

Heinz moved, seconded by Huelskamp to go into executive session for 30 minutes, board only. Motion carried 6-0. 7:54 p.m.

Copenhaver moved, seconded by Heinz to go into executive session for 5 minutes, board only. Motion carried 6-0. 8:25 p.m.

Copenhaver moved, seconded by Heinz to go into executive session for 20 minutes, board and Jeff Bollinger. Motion carried 6-0. 8:30 p.m.

Bollinger exited executive session at 8:40 p.m.

Corri McDowell entered executive session at 8:40 p.m.

McDowell exited executive session at 8:46 p.m.

Adjournment:  A motion was made by Boyd, seconded by Huelskamp to adjourn the meeting.  Motion carried 6-0.  Time: 8:59 p.m.
